I don’t know what kind of people you were hanging around with as a kid, but the people I knew all loved and idolized Bowie, Grace Jones and Annie Lennox so please have a seat and don’t speak for someone you don’t know. This generation has a five-minute attention span and that’s not a lie.

The kids I hang around with do the same thing now, and yeah my friends as a teenager knew all sorts of shit about music, but the majority of shitkicking farm kids I grew up in the same town is, didn’t know and didn’t care and honestly, music isn’t everyone’s priority.  We’ve been whinging about cultural decline and young people being ignorant and having no attention span since ancient Greece.  It’s silly.  They’re kids, they don’t have to like the same shit we liked, and there’s nothing wrong with liking top 40 (highschool me would be aghast hearing me say that).  The elitism and smug superiority of “I’m better because I know more about music” just exhausts me.

I’m too old and too married and too worried about taxes to have that be the basis on which we judge human worth.
