I take them because I need the money, but I always donate part of the money to a muslim women’s shelter or anti-police brutality projects.

wow haha that’s one way of taking the calls and dealing with the white guilt I kinda love this

I figure that those fetishes are probably a coping mechanism for living in a white supremacist society, and far be it from me to deny someone a coping mechanism for oppression

It’s incredibly important to separate though the difference between agreeing to do something culturally harmful because you need the money and accepting to do said thing without acknowledging that it is in fact harmful. Yes, racial degradation as a fetish absolutely is a coping mechanism for some, however that does not mean that people who provide that service are helping others cope, it still does reinforce racism and white supremacy.

Again, I want to stress that I know some workers have been forced to do things they’re not comfortable with -like you thepeacockangel and incidentalpiratess have mentioned your own personal struggles with having to accept those sessions and how hard that can be for you – and I don’t judge you or your struggles with this at all, I don’t think I’m even in the position to judge when I get to pick and choose what clients I’ll take, so I want to acknowledge that, but that last comment just seemed like it’s verging a bit on normalizing or philanthropizing racial fetishes and while I don’t think that’s what you intended with that statement, I just wanted to acknowledge that because that’s not what this post was about when I wrote it.

Indeed, it’s not something I like doing at all.  But I also don’t think it’s my place to tell a POC “Hey your fetish is racist and harmful.”  That feels like it gets into white savior territory.

Like I’ll tell a white dude with a BBC fetish that he’s objectifying black men, but I feel like the other discussion would be one that would end up as something condescending and gross, like “I’m not comfortable doing that kind of call” is what I’d say if I could afford not to take them, but as a white person it’s not my place to say their fetish is racist… do you see what I mean?
