I honestly couldn’t count the number of times a guy I’ve either worked with or been around generally has looked at me, accessed me as gnc/not a woman/not a walking sex object for his use and commodification, and then lightheartedly talked to me about how much he hates women, how much he hates the way they act, how he only deals with women to fuck them, how awful and stupid women are, etc.

And every single time, both because I’m a woman and because I feel like as a butch woman it’s important to do very vocally, I shut these guys down. Every time they’re shocked that I don’t participate. “Women don’t want to date you because you hate them” strikes these men in the face.

So much of make friendship and male comeradery and even male identification is not formed positively, based on active commonalities between men like interests or habits or experiences but formed negatively, directly AGAINST women. Men form emotional connections with other men, bond with other men, by using the women in their lives or on the street as playing cards, as footstools to hold them a little higher in their social circles. They learn that to be man and to be a friend to other men is to degrade women at every turn. They are synonymous.

Patriarchy is a helluva drug
