I’m saving your message, you’re such a sweetheart, thank you. You and your husband sound absolutely adorable, I love reading about your relationship, and how you want to eventually raise your kids. I know it might sound silly but honestly since like… 89% of sex workers I know either hide their work (even if it’s just dancing/camming), don’t actually date/marry people they love, or are with horrible whorephobic partners (even those in same sex relationships) you guys give me hope! <3

D’d dated sex workers before, and has friends who are SWs and I think that’s kind of key, that they can hang with SWs when they’re not trying to fuck them.  Also dating other SWs is a good option cause they’re less likely to get jealous over stupid shit (or be like “YOU’RE SELLING YOUR SOUL!”)

Dating as a sex worker is fucking hard, but it is doable.

huh.

Most of the men I’ve known who have dated lots of sex workers are either dealers or growers, or they have a lot of money and are a lot older. I’m not saying those things as necessarily bad things, lord knows I’ve dated both but they both have certain reasons they’re so aquatinted with the life.

I agree that dating another sex worker is a good option…. thank god I’m not hetero (I know there are straight and gay for pay sex workers, but I dn’t run into them enough). I think for other SW’s though there’s such a huge chance o jealousy in a different way; who’s more “popular” at the club, who has higher rates, who has the most high roller regulars, or I guess for online who has more followers and sells the most content. I guess it’s similar to how often times entertainers say they don’t like dating other entertainers because of the competition (like xtina dating her backup dancer, then marrying her producer, then having a kid with someone from the film crew of her movie) or they date someone in a different part of their careers (i.e. catherine zeta jones marrying a man 25 years older which now doesn’t seem like much of an age gap at all to me, LOL).

Speaking of entertainers most men I know who tour a lot in bands are also very well acquainted with strippers at least and are comofrtable with it (I guess the same could be said for porn).

sorry to go into to so much detail but yeah, I mean I guess that’s why I’m surprised when SW’s find a partner who isn’t a benefactor, dealer, entertainer, gambler, or other SW. I guess as sex worker’s we just have higher expectations as well, compared to civilian women. Which is good and bad at the same time I suppose.

these are 2 interesting perspectives because the moment I find out a person has dated other sex workers in the past, I think Serial Stripper Dater. like they’re not dating me, they’re dating A Stripper. unless yea, the person I’m dating is also another sex worker in which case that’s just proximity. I guess it could be any of these things tho.

haha Serial Stripper Dater…. honestly that’s what goes off in my head too, you just put it more succinctly than I could with my tendency to drone on

Yeah, I’ve experienced those too, I think there’s kind of a difference in tone (is it brought up in a bragging way, and do they only date sex workers, cause that’s a weird fetishizing red flag).  With D it’s more like, having been on the dole, and hanging out with weirdos sex workers are part of his peer group.  Look for people who have sex workers as part of their peer group.

When dating other SWs I find the best way to avoid professional jealousy is either just to have a serious alliance thing going where you help each other out because hey, shared finances, or to date from a different area of the industry.  So if you’re a stripper, date a porn performer, or if you’re a sugar baby, date an escort, or whatever combo works because then there’s less ability to directly compare.  I hear bisexual, and gay for pay male escorts are often really excellent partners for lady sex workers.
