Because I grew up with like… the Alanna books, and 90s kids TV where the girly girls tended to be catty, nasty, and kinda useless and Tomboy heroines were really in vogue and second waver parents and so as a femme I felt pretty shitty about that and really repressed my femmeness and tried to be “tough” and “practical” and made fun of my highschool girlfriend for having 75 pairs of shoes, and drank black coffee and smoked unfiltered Camels to prove I was tough (Note: I’m not actually that tough) and just… erg.
