Stop telling black children to stay out of the sun because they’ll “get too black”

Your fear is rooted in colorism. You’re perpetuating colorism, and you’re keeping your children from loving themselves. Let them live, love, and allow themselves to be a generation of carefree conscious black children.

Just make sure they use sun protection!

Colorism’s not my business and that discussion is one where black people need to talk and white people need to listen but, as a licensed aesthetician I feel the need to say undateableblackgirl is very right, please do remember that even if you are very dark skinned you can still get skin cancer and sunburn so please stay safe out there and wear a hat or use a good (full spectrum) sunscreen, but it’s also important to note that vitamin D is important to everyone’s health and if you avoid sun exposure it’s important to make sure you’re getting an adequate amount through your diet (this is true regardless of your skin tone, though more relevant for dark skinned people living in areas with cloudy weather).  ❤ take good care of yourselves
