this has been on my mind for several days now so im just writing it down:

the way the tumblr left (or any leftist scene rly) functions is absolutely undemocratic. I don’t know how/if this can be solved but: we all follow certain people, and these people pretty much dictate what we’re talking about and how we’re talking about. now of course, we follow those people because they know a lot of stuff and because they have a lot of good opinions, but it is still those people who get the biggest say in our discussions. i think this is not very good, because just because someone knows more theoretical stuff doesn’t mean they know more about praxis or like, the very real and material imlications of stuff like capitalism, gender etc.

i dont know if we can solve this on tumblr, but i encourage everyone to look at their irl organizations and see if maybe there are similar mechanisms at work

I think tumblr may be prone to this cause of the format, the Iww is extremely democratic imo

Idk about the iww but if it is so that’s great!

It’s pretty fantastic, we vote on damn near everything (direct, no representatives) and it was founded in the early early 20th century by a bunch of radicals and had WOC as founding members (Lucy Parsons being a particularly well known original member) and was one of the first unions to be explicitly anti-racist and anti-sexist.
