Joe is not a capitalist. He’s a dictator. Sure he hogs all of the water, food, and fuel, but we don’t know how or if he distributed them. He doesn’t run a business. In fact, as ridicules as this may sound within the context of the movie, his economic policies are never discussed. Tumblr seems to the enjoy demonizing capitalism, and I think that’s because many capitalist companies are abusing the system. Under capitalism, you’re supposed to do what you love and attain money only as a means to continue doing that and to live the lifestyle you want. A great example is SpaceX. Elon Musk started the company with the goal of making space more accessible. To do this, his company has designed highly efficient rockets and is developing a reusable rocket. His other company, Tesla, is the same way. He wanted rapidly further electric car technology and reduce its price. In both cases, Musk only sought money from his companies so that they could continue to make large strides. Musk is a capitalist, and Joe isn’t. Many companies in capitalist systems have abused the system because the people who run them don’t love what they do; they give up on what they love and chase money. I don’t know why; I wish I did. If people truly followed the capitalist system, the world may be a better place. In the mean time, consider your views on capitalism.
Holy shit this is the most incredible convoluted garbage.
Would you care to elaborate? I’m open to a discussion, but your first response was an utter waste of time. I see that your About Me describes you as a “casual Marxist.”
Being able to do what you love is a state that is achievable for the majority only under communism, most of us sell our labor to people we hate to survive, that’s the basis of capitalism, selling your labor so that you’re allowed to exchange some tokens for food. It’s depressing, it’s shitty.
Read some goddamned Jack London and Marx.
You always start out selling your labor. That allows you to gain experience and strike out on your own. Yes, we have to sell our labor for survival. But when capitalism is done right, that’s much less of an issue. The guys who caused the 2008 recession weren’t practicing capitalism, they just wanted money. They are part of the reason that things are the way they are.
Oh, and I read Ayn Rand’s Anthem and The Fountainhead. They convinced me that communism destroys any individuality one could hope for. And look at Communist Russia. Was that happy? Did that go over well? How about Communist China? The governments beat down anyone who was different. No one got much of anything. Capitalism, by its very nature, requires different people to work. It encourages individuality and independent thinking. It tells you to think for yourself. Communism tells you to think like your neighbor. Fuck that, my neighbors are weird (actually they’re decent dudes, but I like me).
Oh my actual god. That is absolutely not what communism is
