There’s actually a really good essay on this and the point it makes is basically that action heroines aren’t into “doing girly shit” but aren’t actually butch either, they’re an ideal and infuriating femininity that fits all the norms of beauty and femininity without doing any of the things necessary to achieve that.  The perfectly pretty tomboy, who doesn’t give a fuck how she looks, but always looks perfect is the horrible creation that gives rise to both the complaints of butch women and femme women about lack of representation.
