Is there a polite term for full service sex workers that’s shorter and more generally understood?
This is something I struggle with all the time, mainly because I’ve become somewhat uncomfortable referring to myself as an escort due to the classist connotations. I just end up saying “whore,” but of course I can only feel responsible saying that around other whores or at least non-whores who are smart enough to know not to repeat it.
Is “hooker” a slur, it definitely feels slangy, but not as insulting as “wh*re” (I’m not full service so I’m not sure how I feel about using that one). I’m writing a mystery story about sex workers solving a murder and untangling a web of police corruption and evil SWERFs.
It is afaik. “escort” is okay but does have some classist implications as wmt mentioned. Tbh I feel like escort would maybe be the best, though. Call girls, maybe? But the implications are the same/similar, imo.
And call girls is gendered. Working girls would work, but it also gendered… maybe working girls, rent boys, and other members of the world’s oldest profession?
