Tumblr needs to quit pretending men and women are the same. They’re not. We have physical and mental differences. It’s not a bad thing or a good thing, it’s just different.

Here’s the thing: To any extent those differences do exist beyond what is socially conditioned (and I suspect a lot is socially conditioned), the difference is in statistical averages, and cannot be used to predict the traits of any given individual.

The average man is taller than the average woman, but the tallest person in the world could at any given point be a woman or the shortest a man.

What differences do exist beyond what is socially conditioned remains questionable.

Also considering how little dimorphism we exhibit in comparison to our closest relative species suggests the sexes are honestly statistically pretty similar.

Also every time I hear “We need to acknowledge differences exist between men and women” the subtext is always “and enforce some sort of proscriptive standard around those differences that is wildly outdated.” I have never had a conversation with someone who is hung up on the differences between men and women that didn’t end with the conclusion “So that’s why it would be better if you were barefoot, pregnant, illiterate, and in the kitchen, regardless of what you want for your life.”  That’s an extreme example, but this line of thought is almost always tied to enforcing some sort of gender role.

If these differences are so natural why do we feel the need to punish people who don’t display them? Y’know?
