Twerking and the strip club

I would also be interested in hearing from older dancers (35+) because TODAY most strippers regard any and all booty moves as their own but most clubs through the 80s and 90s really really frowned on floor work AND pole work, especially gentleman’s clubs targeted at the rich, and I think the rise of booty moves is in tandem with the rise of pole work which I think comes from working class clubs and especially black clubs in the south.

Booty moves for class consciousness

It’s real tho! Like I think undressedanthology works at a gentleman’s club and they don’t really do floor work there (I think? Anyway I’ve heard from strippers on here who are at the lingering “steakhouse” clubs who are just baffled by the idea of floor and pole work) and I had a friend come to Portland from Manhattan and she was just like “none of this would fly.” And she didn’t just mean the tutus and ballet flats.
Anything “too sexual” was low class and booty moves would definitely have been “too black” which is, to get back to it, another reason we have to be careful. Cause booty moves are still too black for a lot of black dancers to do at many clubs, even though white dancers can do them context free.

I meant that seriously
