one of the most efficient ways that I’ve been able to get through to other feminists about sex work, something that is very vocally supported as an empowering career choice, is to ask, “can you buy consent?”

the answer is so obviously no, that when the realization hits that that is exactly what they are advocating, the purchase of consent, it can really open their eyes

Exactly. 🙂 I’m going to use this rhetoric the next time some so-called ”feminist” suggests we try to buy the consent of those poor people forced into the food industry. No little girl dreams of serving coffee to strangers when she grows up! These people can’t consent to cook, serve, and clean up food! It’s sickening. These poor people need to be rescued from these abusive industries, preferably by police officers who will make sure they can never get a decent job anywhere else at a minimum. And don’t even get me started on the retail industry. As feminists, our #1 priority is making sure everyone is ~empowered~ by their job. We should absolutely make life harder for people who are working jobs for shitty reasons, like “paying the rent.” No one can ever consent to sex for money. Just like no one can ever consent to do anything, like, say, watching someone else’s kids for pay. You can’t buy consent. 🙂

Also like the opposite question is “can consent be conditional?” cause like, I can consent to someone fucking me with a condom but if they sneak the condom off that’s rape, if I’m saying “my consent is conditional upon X” and you meet the condition, BAM consent.

That said, economic coercion is a thing and the only solution is to end capitalism
