I think it is difficult to argue that pornographers by and large (at least those with the most pull and money) aren’t misogynists who enjoy manipulating women into doing things they don’t fully want to do, that the drive for men to watch porn isn’t largely due to misogyny, that porn doesn’t affect the way we see women culturally (although I think it is a symptom and not a cause). Of course a lot of the loudest voices against porn are from people who hate sex workers as people but that isn’t a necessary connection- I also hate, say, American Apparel, but I wouldn’t run into their stores and shake the employees (all exploited and making minimum wage) and yell that they need to quit immediately or they are bad people, or tell coffee farmers being exploited by Western coffee chains they are bad people, and so on. My objection isn’t some moral hangup (sex is some beautiful magical thing that should always be connected to love, and so on, sex is inherently about human emotion) and think that stuff is nonsense but politically, yes, I am opposed to porn as an industry.
okay let me explain to you why this is bollocks and you hate sex workers,
1. A fuck ton of porn is produced by small independent producers, in fact probably most porn at this point
2. Porn is not inherently misogynistic, images of people fucking are not inherently misogynistic.
3. Are you anti-the film industry because it’s also filled with misogynistic crap and affects how people see women? No? Then congrats, you’re a whorephobe.
4. How about the novelty t-shirt industry, how is this similar to the porn industry? Well a lot of them are produced using absolutely vile labor practices (more than porn tbh), men consume misogynistic ones for reasons of misogyny, and they are disproportionately misogynistic and their messages have an effect on society.
