eldritch-universalism:

when you get called an elitist for valuing communist theory, why not just adopt it and write your protest signs in script?

next time it’ll be in french

People who say that shit are honestly being intensely classist.  Like the assumption that “theory isn’t for proles” is bullshit.

I’m a high school dropout (I went to beauty school though) sex worker and I can read Fanon, and Marx and Foucault and Kropotkin and Proudhon and all sorts of things and understand them and shooing people like me away from theory is shooing us away from knowledge and understanding that makes broader understanding of our conditions possible, and allows us to articulate the situation in which we find ourselves, and gives us strategies for self organization.

It also carries the implication that we’re not smart enough to read theory, and until I got a bit of encouragement from some very good friends I certainly thought I wasn’t.

Valuing theory without elitism, means not humiliating people who haven’t read as much as you yet, making theory accessible (both in the sense of lending or giving people books and by pointing them towards texts in their area of interest and texts that will give them a good theoretical basis to start from)

Sorry I went on a rant on your funny post, but realizing I’m smart enough to read Fanon and have meaningful ideas about what he’s saying is actually kind of world shaking to me and has me thinking a lot about access to theory and theoretical discourse
