So legal question

I own a condo, the fire code changed and we’re no longer up to code, my downstairs neighbor is selling his unit, for the buyers to get a mortgage the whole building has to be up to code, am I obligated to pay for work on my unit even if it’s for this other person’s benefit and not something I need or want?
