Star Control III was a shit video game compared to its amazing predecessor, but one thing it did have going for it were the villains. This was the whole fucking raison d’être of the Ploxis Plutocrats. Their homeworld used to be the richest and most scientifically advanced in the galaxy, completely egalitarian, basically a utopia.

And they deliberately fucked it all to hell, wrecking their economy, ruining their society, and bringing in alien mercs to strip-mine their planet into a toxic hell. Because, as they freely admit, it’s no fun being rich and happy without any poor people to victimize. By the time the game starts their species has a surviving population of about 30 and they think this is something to be proud of.

That is literally what rich people are like
