Hello fellow kids!
If you live in Providence, RI or Richmond, VA, please tell me what these places are like! Pretend you’re talking to a kind of cool mom.
Are there co-ops? What are laws about having pet ducks and pigs? What are the good neighbourhoods? Reasonably priced produce? Are there bookstores? Are there sinkholes? Earthquakes? I already understand about hurricanes.Thank you in advance!
Also considering Louisville because I know that it is cute and cheap and am already familiar with the layout. But that might be weird.
On PVD: The traffic is terrible, but the food is incredible. I don’t know what the dancing scene is like, but there are some good activisty groups.
There are coops, food trucks, and farmers markets. Public transportation is decent. The West End (hipsters, college kids, boutiques, small eateries) and East Side/Hope Hill (pretty much the same, but aimed at a more adultish crowd). If you are willing to stray into one of the suburbs (Pawtucket on the East, Cranston on the west) you will save a ridiculous amount in rent.
Hubs and I are also looking at apartments in the area right now, so if you need help holler. Also, if you are coming to visit and need a place to crash, I know some guest rooms.
I’m IWW Providence 690, and there’s a labor suit going down at the Lusty Lady (which is the fanciest club). Avoid the Cadillac Lounge (They’re mob run). Cellar Stories is an amazing bookstore and there are numerous other good ones scattered about. My favorite hairsalon is Ky Michaels (but Flipp is good too) and Metro Nails does the BEST manicures. Julians is a great little restaurant, and Gold Stone does the best Chinese dumplings anywhere.
