I feel like in open carry states, all black people should be given automatic concealed carry permits until it stops (and here’s hoping it will) being dangerous for them to open carry.

I tend to prefer concealed carry (for many many reasons) at the outset.

I’d argue if you are allowed to open carry you normally (by state law) are allowed to concealed carry; it’s normally open carry that’s more heavily controlled, don’t ask me why.

And anyone who feels they should concealed carry should lobby for people to have greater access to concealed carry, regardless of skin color, ethnic background, religion, belief, sexuality, etc. Putting people into categories and giving them special rights only entrenches the perceived (bullshit) differences between humans.

Honestly I really think concealed carry should be the more strictly regulated and open carry less strictly regulated (also we should entirely disarm the police). If you have a gun, I want to know about it.

I’d argue that open carry is less effective (but should remain an option) compared to concealed carry.

The benefits of concealed carry are that

A.) It’s concealed, thereby it is less likely to cause a disturbance of other people’s lives (people who have panic attacks around firearms, for example; I actually had a conversation with someone who ended up seeking help regarding their abject fear of firearms, after an open carrier put them into a pnaic attack)

B.) It doesn’t present an open “threat,” while also giving a sort of “herd immunity” If nobody knows who is carrying, then assailants will be more likely to hesitate to commit violent crime, due to that uncertainty.

C.) Open carry is often considered to be a bit “tacky” as it were.

As for disarming the police; I’d actually disagree, despite my dislike of how the us vs them mentality exists as it stands today between police and people. Police should be required to follow the same (often convoluted) methods regarding firearm ownership that civilians do, and should have the option of carrying on the job is they elect to, in observance with all regular laws and posted signage. This is amenable because it does not afford police any special consideration, in regards to training or carry.

Essentially, if a police can walk around with a plate carrier and an AR-15, so should every citizen have the same right to, if they so desire; and they should have the same general requirements (and being a police officer should not be one of those requirements).

I mean personally I dislike handguns, they seem to be more trouble than they’re worth socially in terms of self defense (especially with untrained macho asshats carrying high calibre shit they can’t control and don’t know how to use) and are risky for people with suicidal impulses in a way long guns aren’t, but I also feel out of sight is out of mind, and being able to open carry would act as a deterrent for me for street harassers.

I don’t think police should be allowed to carry, but I also think we should just abolish them entirely because I mean modern police forces were born from strike breakers and slave catching patrols, their roots are in the suppression of labor and maintaining of white supremacy.
