I’m just too fucking old to explain to people not all strippers make a rack a night not every cam girl makes thousands a week not every escort is high end with a college degree n most girls with sugar daddies are either gold digging which is just dating rich men or doing p4p n escorts and brothel workers and strippers have sd’s and all of them are wildly different but people just follow sb tumblr and have never done sex work n think they have any idea of anything.

And I hate people bringing up college and degrees with this shit it’s always a subtle way to try to differentiate the “classy respectable” girls from the girls whom every one thought was trashy before anyways. Not that having a degree has an influence on that but idk in both sw lingo and civvie lingo it just always translates to a certain meaning.

Sorry to reblog my own post but it’s good

^ It is a good post!

I’ve met so many seemingly nice, liberal, open-minded civilian women (the outsiders who you would think would be the most understanding) who if I tell them that I’m a stripper, they give me this look like I’m vaguely gross.

But, if I follow it up with anything about where I went to school or my dreams for the future, they relax again and they’re like, “Oh, you know, I totally respect that, tuition is soooo expensive, where did you say you dance? Oh, I’m glad it’s that place and not the other club in town. The other club is trashy!”

They think they’re paying me a compliment, but they’re not any different than customers who are like, “Wow, you’re really special, you’re not like those other girls who just work here so they can party.”

It’s really gross and it shows how whorephobia interacts with classism. If you show civilians that your experience of sex work is in line with a bootstraps-style capitalist narrative of upward mobility, they will excuse it to a certain extent. However, if you strip for survival or, god forbid, just as a job, then you’re a dirty lazy slut.

Yah I’ve worked at both the best clubs and the worst. I prefer better clubs because of the clientele and it’s more of a “party” atmosphere than sexual, but some girls do better with selling a more sexual experience (not sex, you know what I mean) than providing the party experience or sitting down and getting to know a guy. Different preferred hustles.

And side rant but it kind of misses me off because if you’re a mid range escort in a nice in call or hotel, men, and civilians assume you’re doing it for college and come from a nice middle class background (in the states).

If you’re a stripper they assume you dropped out of high school (I graduated 2 years early but same thing), are lying about school, do drugs (which isn’t bad but there’s still a stigma), a teen mom (still bad but mid range escorts don’t get that assumed about them), and have a deadbeat boyfriend you support (which I have had before).

Lower end escorts are shit on even more but personally I’ve seen more girls face classism from stripping than they do escorting. It also ties into looks. A mid range to high end escort looks just like a normal, albeit beautiful woman, whether it’s classy or college cutie. The classic stripper look is trashy to most people, you could NEVER escort with that look, unless you did PSE.

I’m just salty that people don’t realize that a lot of escorts can move around in the world without being clocked (is that an ok term to use for sex workers? I know “coming out” apples to sex workers AND LGBT people), while those sex workers who have th stripper or porn star look everyone knows what they do.

@lilitharcane this is so spot on I love the pornstar look, but yea its basically outing yourself especially if you were a tomboy before and people see you always buying stuff with cash. I think people are just adamant on keeping the stigma with sex workers

Yah I love it too but even if you’re not a sex worker and you have that look people will assume you are.

Whorephobia is so bad I just try to talk about wgat I was talking about because we face different things. FSSW face different shit than strippers but most of they’re at least mid range can navigate in day to day life without people knowing just cuz of how they look

There are so many girls on ig who have this look and there instantly called escorts its ridiculous. You can definitely hide more if you have the girl next door look. Whorephobia hits civilian girls too but rather than fight with us against the stereotype they rather throw us under the bus. People seem to think you cant have a boob job and a brain. Alot of strippers get put it in with escorts all the time people automatically assume that your not just dancing

Yah but I feel the girls on IG usually have that Dubai Sugar Baby look and it’s different if that makes sense? But I always wondered how those instagram hoes get so much money, like they’re not advertising on Eros, just their “booking” email on IG.

Put yah a lot of people think all strippers do extras and some do but it’s not all of them. People are just ignorant.

Dubai Sugar Baby look lol the perfect description. Well alot of them are fucking sports players and rappers alot of the times or they have a drug dealing bf or sugar daddy. But majority are traveling escorts that dabble in modeling. Especially black strippers like Blac Chyna people automatically call them hookers

This is a great conversation. I think the intersection of race and class needs to be explored more too.

Yah I mean I think I discussed class here sorry if that wasn’t obvious but race has a huge impact (as does being cis or trans)

WOC are automatically hyper sexualized so if they are in a field of sex work where it’s more financially smart to look more “classy” they have to work even harder.

Even strip clubs where the trashy look is a money maker, if you’re not at a black club black girls have to look like Naomi Campbell while pretty much every other girl makes money for looking like they were on Rock Of Love Tourbus and I love that look but I’m just saying the double standard is crazy. I’ve only worked in California, Nevada, and Arizona but at least in Cali and NV it seems like even other WOC can work at upscale clubs with the classic stripper look and black girls have to look like a super model or Beyonce or something.

@bubblegum-pwussay see I see Blac Chyna as the black equivalent of the white girl stripper look cuz like Miami and Atlanta are the black strip club Capitol of the world but I think people that aren’t sex workers or strippers wouldn’t see it that way cuz it’s such a different world.

And TBH I call it the Instagram hoe look when I’m being real cuz the popular girls do hoe it’s just civilians are too naive to know what “booking” means and try to emulate them but the hoes get the last laugh cuz they’re the ones being admired IMO. I have so much respect for that hustle but idk how you even get into it (plus after reading the “porta potties” rumors I’d be too scared)

The racism in sex work is 1 reason Im so obsessed with even toned skin and a perfect hourglass because us black girls are definitely held to a higher standard. And then you have to deal with guys asking you are you mixed day in and day out and sometimes if you say no welp you just lost a client.
But back to the ig girls I honestly dont think its that hard like the other girl said you just need connects they prolly go to a party with popular escort and bam thats how it starts. Like if your posting provocative pics and you have alot of followers you most likely can get some clients off of there that way too @lilitharcane

This convo is so important! (Also can I show it to some of my civvie comrades so I can point out what I mean about the way I get treated for how I look cause they think it’s just misogyny)
