Like if you love makeup and you love spending money on it cause it makes you happy, more power to you, but please don’t pretend clients give a shit that you’re wearing designer mascara.
I think this is really different for different types of sex work because I have done much better wearing higher end makeup than drugstore brand. In stripping makeup is important and that includes like blending and how it stays put among other things, you basically need drag queen makeup and let me tell you from using a lot of ELF, the cheap shit does NOT cut it for stripping. The better your makeup the more authority you have, and the faster your hustle since you don’t JUST have to rely on rapport. With stripping the more money you spend on something the more you make, full stop.
But escorting is different, I completely agree. You’re not in a dark club setting and you’re possibly going to get hot and sweaty. Most clients aren’t expecting a total Digital Playground contract star/VS angel/Playboy model look, and in the US the guys that want that specifically go to strip clubs most of the time.
I guess it’s interesting the difference between clients and customers. For instance when I can’t afford to get my hair done for months or my nails done, I get comments from almost every other guy. It seems most escorts just need to look clean and fresh (with a bit of makeup). Plus clients expect a fantasy sex session, while customers expect basically a fantasy girl looks wise (in the most mainstream way). So yah. Interesting.Yeah I think you gotta have professional makeup when you’re on stage or in front of a high quality camera cause stage light and cameras make you look different.
But there’s also a difference between good makeup and just expensive “designer” makeup and if you’re an escort or sugarbaby you don’t need stage makeup that stays on for 12 hours. No exactly. Personally I’ve spent years with drug store makeup even the high quality ones and while the better ones weren’t terrible, they still weren’t in the 99th percentile obvi. So that’s why my makeup is all expensive, because altho I don’t have a LOT the shit I do wear (for certain things, I’ve been using ELF eyeliner until I can get gel again) had to be the highest quality. I would much prefer a cheaper brand but it’s a business expenses.
And yah I def wasn’t saying you didn’t get it! It’s just fascinating to me how different it is between types of sex work because p much everything with stripping is a no no with escorting. Like exact opposites (that’s why I’m always saying most strippers can be spotted OTC but like most escorts if they’re not street based have civilian passing privilege), and idk. It’s something I wouldn’t think about if I didn’t have tumblr TBH, I would have assumed most escorts caked it on but just made it look a BIT more natural. So idk I love comparing you know?I haven’t stripped as u know but from our convos it seems like stripping is a lot more about glamour than escorting which is like, it’s still about image often times but u have different ways of maintaining the illusion, it’s not as visual as stripping cos u like, ur in private maybe have a conversation etc as opposed to a more party type atmosphere if that makes sense? But yeah I can get away with cheap makeup except for foundation cos I have atrocious combination skin, but if I was dancing it would melt off very quickly lol
Yah you’re also in normal lighting as well so stripper makeup looks a bit OTT.
And yah stripping you do private rooms but it’s still dark and loud v different than what a typical escort booking (even one with a half hour of talking or wtv) is like. And yah we’re also dancing around and like some clubs have showers but you really don’t want to shower so you need something that will stay put thru all that.
Though like as someone who trained as a makeup artist, what works well for stage while usually not as cheap as some drugstore stuff isn’t as expensive as sephora stuff and like usually isn’t as “instragram pretty” packaging wise. Stage makeup brands like ben nye and kryolan are massive staples and are designed to look good under stage-y conditions and last under hot lights and through all sorts of shit. They look OTT in normal lighting but that’s ok.
Also price is often not actually reflective of quality with a lot of makeup. Like
L’Oreal Paris Infallible Lacquer Eyeliner is fucking amazing and the formula is genuinely quality (and I’ve used theater brands, the really fancy shit… all of it) and like honestly some of the foundations maybelline is putting out right now are great, and physicians formula powder is one of the only powders I’ve tried that doesn’t make me look cakey and horrible (and like I have a full container of MUFE that I hate) which is not to say I don’t spend obscene amounts of money at MAC and Sephora I do… but like color cosmetics are really an area where price doesn’t reflect product quality…
