Hey you know those religious practices where you make a giant beautiful elaborate thing that’s intentionally designed to be completely temporary?

You know the ones I mean.  The only versions of this I can think of right now are sand mandalas and butter buddhas, but I know there are more?  What are some other ones?

Makeup is sort of like that. It’s elaborate and time consuming and you take it off at the end of the day.

There’s a tradition in parts of England called Well Dressing, where you make incredibly elaborate pictures on wells and springs out of flower petals. It’s thought to be pagan in origin but I don’t know how many of the people who do it today attach religious significance to it.
