You Don’t Need To Be Unique To Be Valid Or Valuable?

Like there’s this whole cultural “I’m not like other people” thing which people do in order to feel valid or valuable or good about themselves as if in order for you to have value, other people must be less valuable.  I think it comes from the misanthropic worldview atomized individualist capitalism breeds.

Then this combines with misogyny (and other axises of oppression I don’t feel qualified to speak on) and you get the whole "I’m not like other girls” thing, which isn’t simply a statement of individuality.  It’s specifically distancing yourself from girls/women and is thus you attempting to justify misogyny towards the rest of the group while exempting yourself from it.

So like, you know what?  I’m not unique and I’m fucking glad of it.  There are other people who love the same shit I do, who feel the same ways I feel.  I wouldn’t want to be alone in loving the shit I love.  I’m happy when stuff I love gets popular, because new friends are awesome.  IDK why people get upset about that?
