So you know how breed-specific legislation targets “pitbull type” dogs? What if we marketed pitbulls specifically as great dogs for women? Many are not dog or people aggressive unless their owners seem to be in danger (in which case they’re fiercely protective) so like between that and their intimidating appearance they’re great for if you want to go anywhere alone after dark.
Plus the association with women would help curb the tendency of macho douchebags to get them and train them to be shitty.
Yes, that could help a lot. A lot of how dog breeds are perceived has depended on similar social marketing.
Exactly and they are actually great. Like if you have a dog and you have to walk it, you’ll have to walk it after dark, and if you have something small and yappy, it’s not going to be able to do shit to deter anything, whereas walking my pitbull… I’ve had him for a year and while walking him I have gotten street harassed once and he’s the sweetest, gentlest, most lovable guy. He doesn’t even get grouchy when the vet gives him shots (he does cry and wriggle a bit but he doesn’t growl or anything) and he’s a giant cuddlebug. The only problem is his leash manners aren’t perfect which is… something of a problem with a 75 lb incredibly muscular dog.
I’d really recc them as service animals for women with anxiety around dealing with men due to past trauma because they will absolutely keep you safe and are a really wonderful deterrent
They’re also great if you have to walk everywhere because they’re super clingy and need a fair bit of exercise so any place you can bring a dog with you is a bonus.
