I Feel Like We Shouldn’t Have To Go After An Artist’s Talent

To go after their politics.

Like the idea that you have to be like “so and so is so overrated” in order to call them a misogynist or whatever is fucked up because it perpetuates the idea that talent or artistic merit means a person or piece of art is somehow absolved of ethical concerns.

Also it perpetuates the just world fallacy where we believe moral people must be granted talent, and that talented people must therefore be moral which is blatantly not the case.

Also I think the fact that we go after women/POC/LGBTQ/disabled people/etc for saying/doing problematic shit so much harder than we go after straight cis white abled men is kinda fucked up.

It’s just so sucky that guys who were like

My fucking counterculture heroes growing up, guys who I wanted to be like, guys whose art and lives I found inspirational as fuck don’t even think of me as human because of my gender.

It doesn’t upset me cause their work is bad, it upsets me because it can speak to me so deeply and mean so much to me and them the creator doesn’t even think I’m a person, and like they make stuff about these men that are SO cool and SO human and everything I want to be and then their women are like receptacles for angst and sexual fantasies and nothing else and it just sucks because I DO see myself in them, because they DO write characters I relate to, because they DO write stories that mean shit to me.

Like that’s why a lot of 90s comics stuff gets to me, because it does mean something to me, it does speak to me and then it’s like “Yeah but it’s not for you, fuck you”
