Dudes in my org are really pissing me off right now, some of them have actually done seriously sketchy shit and other ones have just not taken obvious steps to avoid looking sketchy and problematic and now we’re having a PR crisis and because of identity pol stuff people won’t listen to my dude comrades and so I have to handle it as the most centrally involved woman and I’m just angry.

Actually I think that the idea that “idealism can replace expertise” pervades a lot of the left and even well intentioned liberal volunteerism

From “I have no knowledge of agriculture, have never studied it, don’t know about terrain or soil quality but because I want everyone to have plenty of food my plan will totally work and not cause a famine” to “I’m a random college kid with no construction experience but because I want to help people my building houses or schools or whatever will turn out great”. Idk, I think we often think being good is a substitute for being good at what you do. You have to be both. It’s so strangely arrogant to think idealism means you don’t need knowledge or training
