Dear gunblr:

If I want a gun for home defense (I.E. Something that won’t penetrate walls) but don’t want a handgun in the house because of a genetic propensity of suicide, what’s the best type of gun?

I have a .22 rifle that I quite like, but I’m worried about the penetration on that as I live in a city.  Would a shotgun with birdshot be sensible?

Honestly

Most people should fire a gun (preferably something small and easy, like a .22 rifle) at least once in their lives and know a bit about them.  Like if you’re really scared I get it, but I also think a lot of people are culturally distanced from parts of the culture that use guns and get really shitty and condescending/unnecessarily terrified because they aren’t actually familiar with them and only associate them with really scary situations.

I mean there are a lot of shit arguments from the pro-gun side too, but it’s like a matter of cultural distance and people not really knowing the other side and why they are the way they are and like… it’s a darn shame.

Like people’s perceptions of say AR-15s are really weird.  They’re just a rifle that uses a midsize cartridge rather than a full size rifle cartridge which means they’re easier to shoot accurately if you’re small, like me, or while moving.  The civilian models are semi-automatic (meaning that instead of having to use a bolt or a pump to chamber the next bullet it does it automatically, personally I slightly prefer a good well designed bolt action, meaning one that suits my long fingernails for accuracy reasons, it’s a very nice rifle). It’s appropriate for hunting and for target shooting.  They do jam easily and require a lot of cleaning though.

Also a lot of guns get called AR-15s that aren’t by news and I don’t know why.

Sorry for bothering, but why do you think people should be allowed to own guns. Guns only exist for one reason, to kill. And now with all these mass shooters (Btw what’s up with all of you americans feeling the need to take pictures with your guns?)

Because hunting and target shooting are fun, frankly there are countries that have more guns per capita than the US (Canada, New Zealand) that don’t have huge numbers of mass shootings, which makes the question more something about culture, not to mention the only gun control laws we so have exist only because black people owning guns scared the shit out of white people so like… yeah.

Not to mention the fact that I find the idea of a society where only the police and the military have guns (and you know we’re never going to be able to take those if we’re not having a literal revolution, right?) fucking terrifying.

Like the worst, shittiest, most conservative dickbags are the only ones with guns.

That is a very bad idea, as to pictures, if you’re a sport shooter (like I am, recreationally) it’s like taking a photo with your fishing rod.

Honestly, people get really fucking weird about guns, especially when they’ve never handled one.
