P.S. This is Madeira. I know this doesn’t count as evidence but I just want to state how much I love my husband. He is kind and gentle, funny and intelligent, loving and warm. He’s a wonderful cook and passionate lover of history. He is handsome and loving and takes wonderful care of me and our home. He’s a superbly talented artist, a wonderful man and a truly incredible husband. We have endured many months of separation due to the complexities of immigration law, I know that this is down to the hard evidence, phone records and bank statements, flight confirmations and so on, but I had to write this, I couldn’t bear to leave you with nothing but the cold clinical details of my warm, living marriage.

This is just fucking mean, you do not get to take apart families because of fucked up immigration law. I didn’t get to live with my own husband for the first year of our marriage, and we’re immensely privileged and white and my family was able to afford a lawyer to help us with the process and it was still a fucking nightmare. The US immigration system is a broken, shitty racist mess. You do not take a parent away from a child. You do not take a spouse away from their spouse.
Also how sad is the American flag on his t-shirt. Fuck this shit. My husband and I are still in immigration hell because he’s gone four months without health insurance because for some reason his greencard isn’t enough evidence of his immigration status. Fuck the US immigration system and tell me what I can do to help get this dad back to his family.
