I didn’t cause it’s in a forum thread with a lot of responses but baaaaaaaaaaaasically “recasts” (counterfeit dolls) are causing real problems in the doll hobbiest community and have caused a couple of companies to fold in recent years.
Recasts used to be poorly made and easily distinguished and thus less of a problem, however, nowadays they’re often quite well made, sometimes better made than the legit dolls and it’s causing problems in the resale market and all sorts of places. Annnnyway, legit dolls are handmade, made to order objet d’art and thus quite costly, however, there are people who want these not as handcrafted art works, but as mass produced leisure activities and basically for their purposes the artisanal nature of dolls isn’t socially necessary labor and so they won’t pay for it
