If You Are A Leftist

Liberals and others are going to attack you, not just from points of view they know you find abhorrent, but from within.

Especially in the US.  COINTELPRO was and remains intensely effective.  If you are a leftist, do you really think capitalism isn’t clever enough to figure out that attacking head-on isn’t the way to destroy our organizations?

They know what issues we worry about.  They know to accuse us of misogyny, homophobia, racism, transphobia, ableism, even liberalism because they know that that’s shit that can actually divide us, that those accusations will actually stick and matter within our communities.  Tarring effective organizers with those labels works, because those labels are actually things we abhor and accusations of those kinds are very difficult to refute. 

Which is not to say that those issues or accusations should be ignored, just that the guilt on accusation and the “no one is redeemable” purity politics I see happening a lot are not a way to win.

Some reasons civilization is amazing:
1. Simply the number of people it can feed
2. The vast array of specialized weird interests it allows you to pursue instead of just fucking hunting and gathering in your imaginary idyllic society
3. The sheer amount of choice in food and other consumer goods I have. I don’t have to eat seasonally, and I like that.
4. Heating and air conditioning
5. Not having to shit outside
6. Plumbing in general
7. Not dying in childbirth is actually SUPER rad
8. Not having to work with my hands, being able to live in heels, having choice about my physical appearance that technology allows
9. Dirty fanfic shared from the other side of the planet
10. Being able to meet and form a relationship with someone from the other side of the planet
11. This squeezy rubber dragon toy I am currently playing with
12. Living in a place where my stilettos don’t sink into the ground
13. Fuck bugs
14. No seriously just fuuuuuuck bugs.
15. Being able to eat bon bons and read about hermetic magic and flower penis sex
16. Lab grown jewelry
17. Also the possibility of lab grown limbs
18. Memory foam mattresses
19. TBH I can’t come without a vibrator and I think that that is a perfectly valid reason for supporting full electrification (I need wallsocket, batteries won’t get me there)
20. The fact that I can find the four other people into glam rock, communism and hermetic magic on earth and talk to them
21. Did I mention not dying in childbirth
22. Perfumery as an art form
and that’s just off the top of my head

Also the problem with “big pharma” isn’t them sneakily pushing drugs on people who don’t need them

They already have a large captive market called “people whose lives and/or quality of life are dependent on something only the one company can supply”

And basically you’ll pay pretty much anything to not die so like it’s having all these hostages readily available. They don’t need to feed you Ritalin. They can just charge thousands and thousands of people whatever they want for “keepsyourheartfromexplodingestra”.

I think the reason for the popularity of the “pill mill” narrative is that liberals kinda know that our medical system is evil but can’t acknowledge crimes of omission, so have to come up with a narrative where it’s a crime of commission and people don’t need medical treatment anyway.
