Holy shit, so apparently (according to this book) it’s likely that Dionysus was originally a god of the Minoans, a people the Greeks conquered, who became a colonized working class. Their gender norms were different (and cooler) and basically Dionysus is a liberator god for that reason.
Also the Minoans were probably Matrilineal.
