Also Get Out

Is like… a truly excellent movie, like the sort of shit that deserves immediate promotion to classic status, it is also (like a lot of truly great cinema) fuckin’ hard to watch, and if you’re white and have an iota of empathy or self awareness you should have a hard time, it should make you uncomfortable, it should make you tense up.

Sing Street is Surprisingly Feminist

Like the dude starts out wanting the girl as like an idea of her, but then she starts making music with him, and gets developed into three dimensions and he just likes her better and she encourages him to experiment with gender expression and reject patriarchal masculinity and he’s there for her when her shitty boyfriend does something shitty but doesn’t like pursue her then, and like when she’s all fucked up over being abandoned by the bf and thinking she has to abandon everything she cares about she’s all no-makeup wholesome (when normally she’s dolled up and kinda rock and roll) and she’s dolled up and rock and roll again when she runs off with her sweet rock n’ roll boyfriend.

I really love this.

Also like I think we’re living in kind of a golden age for horror movies with genuine artistic merit, not just like genre fun, but truly excellent pieces of cinema that deserve their place in the cinematic canon not just the horror one. Like we’ve had Crimson Peak, Lord Of Tears, Livid (French 2011), Byzantium, and now Green Room, like I think movies in general are not attracting the talent they historically have as many great screenwriters move to doing television, but we’re seeing a renaissance for horror and I’m really liking it.

Saw Green Room Today

That is one of the tightest, most well written films I’ve seen in fucking years.

Beautifully written, an immense amount of visual storytelling and really excellent cinematography, also the villains are fascists and they (SPOILERS) die in the end so that’s fun.

Like it’s emotionally difficult, and harsh and ugly but REALLY REALLY good.

cinema doll and candy treat?

What makes a movie really enjoyable for you?

Being aesthetically pleasing to me, people I find sexually attractive.  Horror movies in the gothic style, and like then like dreamy rock n’ roll shit like Velvet Goldmine and Performance and then also fun heist films and comedies of errors and things with schemes.  I love elaborate schemes.

Candy treat: Chocolate covered toffee 4ever, also those sour straws.  I will eat sour straws until my mouth bleeds.  Also jolly ranchers (cherry and grape and sour apple are the best ones).  Also new zealand chocolate.  It’s creamier and way better than american.  I also like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Butterfingers bars.
