Dionysos continued his wanderings, and we have descriptions of the god: young, tender and beautiful, somewhat feminine in appearance, his hair flowing in long dark curls and crowned with ivy and grape leaves; clad only in a leopard skin or a long exotic robe, he carries a thyrsus, a fennel stalk topped with a pine cone which has been interpreted as a phallic symbol.
