Magic I think is, essentially, processes by which we attempt to achieve various ends without a solid understanding of why what we’re doing will achieve those ends.

Like… IDK we didn’t understand what the physics behind ribbon curling (you know the kind you curl with scissors) until like 2015, but we did know that ribbon curled when you did the things… and like for a long time we didn’t understand why it was that forged iron implements got stronger when rapidly quenched in water, but like they did when we did the thing so we did the thing.

So magic is just us like… doing that basically and like we’re not sure which elements are important or why they work or how they work… or even 100% that they do work, but like… y’ know?

Saying that we should abandon GMOs because they currently have certain problems, is like saying we should have abandon the car because of its safety issues instead of inventing airbags and seatbelts.

Stop that.  Yes, the technology can be used for evil like most technologies, but if that makes it inherently bad, then horses are evil because Genghis Kahn used them, very successfully I might add (actually in a lot of ways he was a pretty cool guy, believed in the rights of women, religious freedom, and meritocracy rather than inheritance… that said he was a scary motherfucker… but also really romantic)
