actual friendly reminder: being anti-porn does not make you anti-consenting sex worker

how

actually ya it does

No?????? it doesnt???? please explain to me how an industry that exploits and traumatizes women is equivalent to independent consenting sex workers????????????????? its literally like comparing a brothel/pimp to an independent cam girl

Well if you really listened to sex-workers you’d know that *many* have said you can’t be anti-porn and still support them. I suggest you listen to them before you make statements you are not in the position to be making. How are supposed to support someone and their work if you don’t support their work? This is like someone saying they support my choice to have an abortion but are morally against abortion. Do you realize how incredibly patronizing this is? I don’t want that kind of support at all. Also there is also a *huge* difference between sex-trafficking and sex-work and porn in general, perhaps you are confusing the two? You also don’t have to support the bad side of porn in fact I recommend you don’t but saying you’re anti-porn in general means you don’t support sex-workers. I’m not trying to be rude or anything but I feel like you really haven’t been listening to sex-workers very much and you don’t have as much respect for them as you think you do. I would recommend looking into why many sex-workers feel that anti-porn means you do not support them.

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Like labor practices in CERTAIN (not all) sectors of the porn industry suck. But that doesn’t mean you should be anti-porn any more than you should be anti-chocolate because of labor conditions on cocoa farms (which are hideous). Oppose bad labor conditions, and not the product of labor because that’s just silly

OMFG LABOR PRACTICES “SUCK”???????

Yeah, actually it is comparable.  Like enslaving children who you’ve trafficked and taken from their families is definitely human trafficking.  Porn is the product of labor.  Chocolate is the product of labor.

Deciding that sexual labor is somehow magically different because of the sex bit, is the same bullshittery that says a human being’s consent is only important when it’s sexual, and as a survivor of rape, and of serious domestic violence, let me tell you, getting tickled till you fucking piss yourself?  Not less traumatic than rape.  Having your partner threaten to shove your hand into a pile of broken glass?  Not less traumatic than rape.

I am a sex worker.  Also you treating cam workers like we’re somehow better than brothel workers is fucking condescending and disgusting.  Also the fact that you ignore that the VAST majority of porn is independently produced by performers creating their own content is wrong and godawful.  Like this lady who happens to be a friend of mine, makes all her own content out of her studio in her barn, sews all her own costumes, builds all her own sets.  And you know what her problem is?  Not that she’s being trafficked, or coerced, the fucking problem is that people pirate her content and don’t subscribe to her website so she has to strip and do webcam to make ends meet.  Piracy is a HUGE problem for indie porn performers.

Also the fact that you don’t seem to realize that there are people taking a huge cut of the profit of indie sex workers like me because the adult industry is stigmatized and they can afford to treat us worse, like streammate, you get 1/3rd of what you earn for the owners, and that fucking sucks.

You have no idea what the reality of the sex industry looks like, so shut your goddamned pie hole.

You know before I started doing sex work

I was flirty and enjoyed male attention to some extent (although I was already getting towards jaded because I’d done internet dating) because it made me feel pretty and validated and stuff.

Now unless they’re super polite, super hot (meaning my type and aware that they’re my type) and super cool with “never gonna happen” it makes my skin crawl, unless I’m getting paid and even then sometimes still

Men who want huge perky boobs on a tiny frame, flawless skin, giant eyelashes, lush lips, a hairless body, visible eyebrows and platinum hair and then lose interest when I admit to being less than “all natural” are never going to find what they want.

So I Had a Guy Who Called And Booked A Session For Ten

And he didn’t ask for anything weird, just flogging and leather and boots and me being bitchy, but I got a really sketchy feeling from him.  I can’t put my finger on what made me feel skeeved out at all, but I just got a BAD feeling and the more I think about it the worse it gets.

I need the money, but on the other hand my gut is like 99% accurate.

Should I go?  Could I just be tired or off, I have been feeling a little weird today.

My only issue with “we’re the same” is it doesn’t acknowledge the systemic differences in treatment of women who do “the classy version” and those of us who do the “trashy evil version” but yeah basically

Though admittedly I feel really fucking resentful of people who do get to enjoy the cultures we created without experiencing social stigma sometimes, even if they’re not being actively whorephobic, but like it’s not that I resent sharing the culture really so much as resent the fact that they get to have sexy fun times (often because of societal privileges actual sex workers lack) while we’re treated like shit, and like I think a lot of them don’t understand fighting, and the struggle involved in carving out those spaces for ourselves, you know?
