Also Like You Can’t Organize Real Working Class Solidarity If You’re Doing It From A Place Of Pearl Clutching Superiority.

Like you’ve got to be one of the people you’re trying to organize.  Like if you wimp out on doing your share of the work, or act like a whiny special snowflake, none of your coworkers are going to listen.  You have to be their actual comrade, the kind of person they have a beer with, the kind of person they are, as a sex worker, I’d have a harder time trusting the chick who won’t shave because of principals to actually get it, to be on the ground in the sex industry in the same way I am.  If she works specifically doing body hair fetish stuff, that’s different, but it’s like, if you think you’re somehow better than us because you can afford to make that choice… then it feels like you’re making judgements about our situation without actually being in it, and acting like you know better.

I Feel Like A Lot Of People Want To Do Sex Work For The Wrong Reasons

Like you have all these sex-pos feminists who are like into feminist sex shops and queer porn skipping into the industry thinking about magical unicorn glitter and empowerment and whatever, and it’s like… a job?  With like appearance requirements and like generally to make a living you have to like be and act a certain way.

Or like getting into it to boost their radical cred.

The idea that sexual consent

is somehow the only form of consent that matters, and doing other stuff to people without their consent is somehow more okay or less traumatic re enforces view that the problem with rape is the assault on sexual purity, rather than an assault on autonomy.

Believe me, as a survivor of rape, and of domestic violence, I was just as traumatized by not being allowed to go out on my own, by being forced to sleep on the floor so that my boyfriend could use the bed for his guitars. being tickled to the point where wet myself, as I was by the rapes.  All were again and again re enforcement of the idea that my preferences and desires did not matter, that I had no agency, no choice.

If you believe that agreement to do something if you get paid for it is consent for stuff other than sex, than it’s consent for sex too.

Forcing someone to dig a ditch against their will is slavery, someone agreeing to dig a ditch for you if they get paid isn’t.  Jesus.
