“I can’t accept you for being transgender, the bible says it’s a sin.”
Galatians 3:28
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Does it say that? Does it really?
Damn son even the bible isn’t transphobic, how about that
Stop trying to make the bible look good:
Deuteronomy 22:5 “A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an
abomination to the LORD your God”
The bible calls for gender equality, it still says that being transgender is “an abomination”. And to those of you who would defend the new testament, saying Jesus came and reformed that written in the old testament, I present to you, Luke 16:17 and Matthew 5:17-18:
“But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one stroke of a letter of the Law to fail.”
“Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest
letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished…”
Sorry, but the bible is an evil tool of oppression. Christians who say being transgender is a sin are correct, it is a sin… And so are many other things that shouldn’t be. You cannot look for love and tolerance in the bible, it simply does not exist as one would like it to. Those Christians who would judge transgender people are doing Gods work, and that’s fucked up.
The bible doesn’t call for gender equality. It very explicitly says men are to rule over their wives, that women are to be silent, and that women are cursed because Eve ate the apple first.
The bible is a gigantic mess of different shit from different eras and people, mistranslations, contradictions and things that can be interpreted a whole bunch of directly opposing ways.
Saying it can only be interpreted one way is drinking the fundie koolaid. Like, gnostic interpretations make Eve a messianic figure for delivering humanity from ignorance in opposition to the demiurge, and like what the bible even contains is actually up for grabs unless you accept that the council of Nicea’s highly political (trying to hold an empire together) decisions were 100% correct and the word of god.
Honestly, the bible is so up for grabs in terms of interpretation and what in it you choose to prioritize I think what a person chooses to do with the text says a lot more about them as a person than it does about the text the bible contains. I mean one could interpret
Deuteronomy 22:5 “A woman shall not wear man’s clothing, nor shall a man put on a woman’s clothing; for whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God”
as “and trans people must always dress as the gender they are” because hey a trans woman is a woman, and so if you interpret it through that light it’s an abomination for her to wear men’s clothes, or as it’s “a woman’s” or “a man’s” one could also interpret it as “don’t borrow clothes from people who aren’t the same gender as you” or even “Hey mister steals his wife’s panties to wear to jerk off, you need to knock it off”
So… um, yeah, you can read whatever you want into the bible.
