I read in /Caliban and the Witch/ by Sylvia Federici that in medieval europe, peasants often aimed to have small families, few children, etc. b/c they didn’t have much to pass down, and what they did had to provide sustenance for their children (and, like, marrying really late was common). contrast nobility. so it might not be a new trend that the rich have more kids?
