I’m not in any way making light of the atrocities that occurred in Soviet Russia, or laughing at the idea of the immense suffering and enormous number of deaths that occurred as the result of the gulag system.
I’m mocking the mainstream perception of leftists as all closet Stalinists. The gulags were a horrible, monstrous violation of human rights. Many dissidents who were angry at the regimen for not being left enough were imprisoned, and put through hellish conditions, many died. My personal favorite soviet politician Polina Zhemchuzhina was put there for being too good at her job, she thankfully survived and was reunited with her husband (Moltov) after Stalin’s death.

If anyone here lost loved ones to that system, or suffered under it themselves read my blog, I am truly sorry about what happened to you or those you care for.
