So With 4Chan Apparently Shutting Down Soon

I was thinking about that era of internet culture and the “how much can you take?” ethos, like it was about showing yourself unphased by the grotesque, the morally repugnant… showing yourself to be unphased by everything, able to laugh at everything, having nothing you held sacred except for holding nothing sacred and IDK I feel like we haven’t done as much of a 180 as we sometimes think… I think certain aspects of the more toxic parts of SJ culture are actually similar, the whole “how much can you take?” thing, how much almost Maoist self criticism, how many jokes about privileged aspects of your identity and while like I think criticizing the powerful is important and like it being different making jokes about the powerful rather than the margenalized, I feel like sometimes we don’t examine people as whole people so much as crystalized discreet identities… and so like IDK working class people get thrown under the bus for using the wrong language even though they don’t have the resources to have known the right language and get like mocked and pushed out of shit and what not when they don’t have the emotional resources to take people being hard on them.

IDK I see other feminists doing it and I don’t like it.

with all due respect: if anything, the problem with the depiction of women in the media is that they are overly sexualized and depicted as ‘hot and sexy’ physically even when realistically they are meant to look more like human beings… I hardly think the problem is that female characters are depicted as being ‘too unsexy.’ Men can be important regardless of their looks, but women always have to be young and look a certain way, with major emphasis on their naked bodies

The point was that women in media are “sexy but have no sexual agency” also “women are never allowed to be sexual but unsexy” and a bunch of other stuff.

Like Spider Jerusalem is NOT a sexy character.  He’s a pent up weird looking chronic masturbator who saves the day with a ray gun that makes people poop themselves.  Where in this post did I ever suggest that female characters are depicted as too unsexy?

That is not a sexy naked person (to most people) he’s not sexualized, he’s just naked, and weird looking.  I want women to be able to be naked and weird looking and unsexy.

How come a woman depicted in the same way is always arching her damned back and has magic boobs and no stomach creases.  Show me a scrawny aging heavy smoker with leathery skin like that, and make her the fucking coolest.  I want women to be able to be ugly naked in media and not be a joke.

The point is that he’s haggard looking and weird looking and YOU STILL FUCKING WANT TO BE HIM BECAUSE HE IS SO COOL but also he can be naked and it’s not sexy because nothing about him is sexy.

Also the REAL point of that post was that women have to be “nice” and “likable” and absurdly pure of heart to be heroines.  They can never be morally complex, difficult, unpleasant or anything but angelic, or well they can but it’s rare (though we’re seeing it more, also women getting to be ridiculous and over the top and funny in a way historically reserved for men).

It happened to someone very dear to me recently, and people are saying all sorts of horrible shit to him (and these people call themselves feminists and would never dream of saying this shit to a woman in the same situation) “Well you shouldn’t have been that drunk” “why didn’t you push her off” “why did you keep talking to her after” “why didn’t you confide in someone” (he did, the day after) and now people are accusing him of being the aggressor when the perpetrator has a pattern of taking advantage of seriously intoxicated men and it’s just really really fucked up.

Admit women are human and capable of doing the same evil shit as men please.  We’re not perfect just cause we’re oppressed.

and no lie, they are shitty slimey little fucks, but honestly you know what’s worse than those? 

Shitty boys who will lie, cheat, and manipulate to get a relationship.  You can lose years to those sneaky bastards.  They’ll drain every last drop of emotional support from you and don’t give a fuck about who you are as a person.

Also I’m not into the whole “Women always want commitment” stereotype cause sometimes we really don’t.

Also like I went out alone with a lady friend (not a ladyfriend but a lady who is a friend) the other night to go dancing.  We got catcalled more than like ten fucking times just walking to the bar.  

Also some asshole called us a homophobic slur which was weird cause like yeah both pretty gay but we aren’t y’ know, together?  So like ??? HOW DID U KNOW?  

I don’t leave the house without male accompaniment a lot and I’d forgotten how bad it is.
